You - Have you ever noticed how people always break up at coffee shops? Every time I walk into Starbucks there is always an arguing couple breaking up. You try not to pay attention but you can't help but overhear them.

HB- Really? Blah-Blah...

You - Yeah, just the other day me and my friend, -insert girl name-, went there after class and there was this blond haired girl, looked like she came straight out of an Abercrombie ad, saying to her boyfriend, "you'll never find anyone like me ever again". I turned to my friend and said, "I would hope not." I mean, isn't that the whole point of breaking up with someone?

I've taken bits and pieces from jokes and things that I've heard, so I don't know if someone has done a variation of this somewhere (I searched and didn't find anything). There are plenty of opportunities to DHV, add emotion and stuff like that. It hasn't been field tested yet, but it's just a stock story that you can change to your liking and go pretty much anywhere from.
If you have any suggestions on how to make this better, feel free to post them.

Yeah I need to find a good wing, I'm usually flying solo. What do you think of the story though? I field tested it tonight and it got a good laugh.

That's actually an old technique. The newbies will not know it, but any seasoned HB will be onto you....

I like it, its fun, something people can relate to, and even if they dont its humorous. best of all it could lead to discusions on anything from coffee to dateing.

I've never heard of this "technique", it is just a story/routine. Maybe I'm just being naive, but how will they be onto me?

Possible variation: Have you ever noticed how people are always hooking up at coffee shops? Every time I walk into Starbucks there are always two people in line getting friendly. You try not to pay attention but you can't help but overhear them.

Why this variation? It gets her picturing people hooking up and triggers some emotional feelings that would be very helpful to you. As opposed to causing her to remember the last time she broke up with a boyfriend while staring at you.

Just my 2 cents.
