I have trouble transitioning with an indirect opener, I usually ask for directions to some place for example: "Excuse me, Do you know how to get to Brunswick bowling alley by any chance?" then they always answer, I've never had someone ignore me or be bitchy toward that question. Once they do tell me where it is I just say thank you then walk away. How do you transition from those kind of openers or any opinion openers for that matter?
Well you could continue with that a bit more like asking if they go there at all, or what its like and that sort of thing. Then you are gong to need to bridge into other material. These types of openers are great for practicing opening but not always the best for furthering the conversation.
If I remember right AFC Adam Lyons did a opener similar to this asking where the nearest starbucks is.
