This encounter sort of has a lot of details.

I first met hb 8-9 at a taco shop when I was with my gf about 2 weeks. I broke up with my girlfriend about 1 1/2 weeks ago, so I decided to go back because I thought the girl liked me. The girl doesn't know if were dating bc we weren't at all affectionate when I was there (relationship was just about over) but she could very well suspect.

I go in about a week ago and chat with her a bit, she fumbles my credit card, and we both laugh, but she gets a customer, so I leave once I get my food, this was our second encounter.

Tonight I go in she immediately smiles, then looks back at the cook and smiles, and then accidentally knocks over a a stack of cups, which gets us talking. We talk for a bit she doesn't realize the food is ready, which is also funny, and so as im about to leave I ask if she'd get a drink from me sometime, up until this point her body language was totally into me. Once I asked she took one giant step backwards, said "I don't know maybe, ask me next time you're here".

Just wanted to hear what you guys think. I think I should've asked for her number and maybe went less direct.

I don't think you did a lot wrong, if the signals pointed to her being into you. I would've probably given her compliment about that is was fun talking to her because (something like that's she's really funny for example) and then I would've asked her for her number. And I would've probably seeded the date during the encounter and not have asked her out at that moment. I would've done that over the phone.

But I don't think you've lost all your chances with her or anything, just keep on doing what you were before, so be attractive and qualify her and ask her number the next time.
