Well, she had smiled at me from across the room a few times, so I just went up and said, "hey! Ive seen you around here a few times the past couple of weeks and I wanted to say hi, Im [name]"

I just dont get why shed glance over and smile all the time, and be interested in talking to me the way she had if she was taken.

lol im no pickup god or anything, but I believe one would argue that they dont deserve compliments only if you are running your night game. Day game and Night game are 2 completely different things. Girls will be so shocked to have a guy, during the day, come up to her and say " Wow you are stunning". This wouldnt work during night game in a club somewhere because they get that every second of the night. Just my two cents.
