first of all look at your peacocking , was it switched on
second look at your body language , if they were moving targets did you take off the momentum at first , if they were static did you hit it with the right angle 45 degree angle

thirdly , someone here mentioned yes or no question , that is the ultimatum , never ask a open ended question, plus you mentioned the sentence "can I ask you a question" totally AFC , just ask the question without asking them if you can ask it in the first place.

The only IOI I got from her was a smile which clearly showed that she was up to my scheme.

dont ask her permission for her to listen to you. why ask if you can ask a question? instead of saying - ''hey there may i -'' say - ''hey there what do you think about this?'' dont give her a reason to shut you down. for all she knows your just like every other guy who comes over and puts the moves on her. she doesnt have a clue what it is your going to ask. if she says - ''yeah sure'' in her head shes taking the risk of accepting you. by asking her permission to listen to you your asking her permission to accept your frame. why give her the option to blow you off?

Instead of "Hey can I ask you a question?"
Say: "Hey guys, quick question.." Then proceed into your opener without waiting for them to say anything back. Asking their permission is too big on an IOI and it lowers your value as your raise theirs.
