The faster you approach the more authentic and genuine it will come across and the girl will feel your intent more. Approaching fast will make your vibe so much stronger and more importantly you feel great for acting on your intentions and expressing your self as a man.

If you approach straight away this will build a mental level of confidence if you like- Inner-game will improve as well.

I agree that the quicker you approach the better the result can be. One reason is because it gives you less time to analyze or over analyze what you are going to say or do. A lot of approaching is just random conversation starters.
