So I'm working club game during freshers week in uni and have come up with a fairly solid opener. I'm not sure whether its already used by others of whatever but I'd though I'd run it past you guys.

Me: Hey are you guys freshers?

Group: yea why?

Me: Cool, quick question. Have you guys heard any really bad chat up lines yet?

Girls of group: lol yea I've seen some real wierdo's trying stuff out on my us (or something to that effect)

Me: Ha that's cool, what have they said... continue thread, share embarasing/funny story etc...

Obviously what I've written here isn't the way it always turns out (I'm hungover writing this so sorry for lack of effort to some extent). This has however worked to strike up conversation.

Don't use it. try and be situational. the opener is only the small part of the pick up, the main part is how do you transition to attraction, rapport and number close.

Lol, why you're saying that he shouldn't use it?

I would say that because of the friendly university environment, girls will be open to that stuff, if you look doable ofcourse... But it may be better to start with the basic shit convo's like what study are you following, where are u from and shit, and then transition to the chat up lines.

Thanks for the feedback. I took what you both said into account tonight, opening was more spontaneous and less forced like the stuff I wrote down was. The material works as a good conversation thread when trying to include the whole group of people.
