I'm a naturally shy person, but I've stumbled on to something that really helped me be more social in the bar / club environment.

Last night, I sat at home and had a few drinks by myself just to get me primed before I headed to the local bar (I live within walking distance, so I didnt have to drive). And I watched A LOT of porn, but didnt masturbate because I needed as much motivation to actually approach a woman as I could get. I had no idea if any of this would work, but it made sense to at least try. And sure enough, I went to the bar half drunk and horny as hell (from the porn) and WOW!!! It worked great! Unfortunately, the bar was a total sausage fest. There was one woman I talked to, but she was way older than I wanted to deal with (50s). But still, the drinking at home and the porn was a huge success. I was talking to everybody at the bar last night! Before, I went to the bar totally sober, and it took me a couple of hours to loosen up enough to actually approach a girl.

I seriously recommend this strategy to anyone like me who is normally a very shy person and has a hard time approaching women.
