There's some good stuff in this thread.

'ah my favourite waitress, whats your name?' then go into the David D opener Mav suggested (thats gold).
If she misunderstands you (like you said) ask her where she's from, she says 'italy', you say 'woah guess where im from, wolverhampton, can you believe it, what are the chances of that'
Then this > 'its difficult i know, my italian is'nt very good either' (now thats a neg right)

I think im gonna have to start going to cafe's an that, even if i only buy a drink.
