Tried this one in a shop today well me what you think,

Was in American Eagle today and i saw this HB8, i pick up two womens tops and i ask her what she thinks is the best. She laughs and says i hope thats not for you..I say no its actually for my sister shes very picky, its her birthday tomorow. I ask her to put both of them upto her to see how theyd look, then she says id pick the blue one and i say you know wat i was about to pick the green one because it brings out the color of your eyes, she blushed like a friggin tomato. Wat u think i # closed in the end. The only risky thing is if shes buying something shes gonna expect you to buy the one she picked out aswell. lucky thing is i did go for the blue cos it is my sisters birthday!!

The only issue is that if you have to buy when it's not your sister birthday you get stuck with women's clothing. You might donate it with a pile of other clothes and use your charity as social proof to give you an excuse to hit on the hot thrift store clerk. You could also turn a story like that into a DHV story. The hard part would be to make it sound like you're not bragging.

Simple solution to the sister bday delimma... go back later and return it. If you can pull some kind of close, or a bounce. Wait till she is gone and get your money back... However, i like to use that it is for my cousins bday cuz for one, i dont have a sis and i dont want that lie coming back to haunt me, and two you can pretend to have mailed it off to your cuz... but ya, i like using this routine quite a bit.
