I think I see the reasoning here, to observe what effect having good looks has upon messages received. Sounds pretty interesting actually, we've seen what happens when you make a girls profile so why not this too.

Well unless you're planning on having surgery there's not a lot of changes you can make to your own profile after factoring the results of this test.

It's pretty obvious that a hot guy is going to appeal to more women. The internet is a very shallow way to sarge, you can help your odds with cracking profiles and messages, but some people are just gonna go by the pics.

Girls tell me weekly in person (daily on POF) that I look like Patrick Dempsey (I do have a picture on there of me dressed as 'McDreamy' on Halloween)...but when I write a crappy profile (I switch it up a lot to test out new things) / or a crappy message, I'll still get rejected. Honestly, a solid profile is worth more than a hot picture.

I did read on OKcupid...that despite girls always saying "I don't want to see shirtless pics of you"...that guys profile's with topless pictures, actually get a much higher hit/message rate. I haven't tried this yet...

I think you're wasting your time here, you should be testing areas you can improve on for yourself...

higher message rate isn't quality though, if your looking for the 9's and 10's on the dating websites the few that are there... I had a lot more success with taking topless pictures off personally. On facebook/myspace the opposite seems to be true however, more success w/ topless photos there.

Yeah I wasn't saying if you're good looking guy, have a rubbish profile and you'll still get reply after reply, but kick ass profile plus good photos is gonna win everytime. Maximise what you've got.

And yeah, the shirtless thing, it's like women saying they want a nice guy, the shirtless pic is still gonna ping their subconscious.

The recent ok cupid blog about the women who divide opinion, so some guys think they're a 10 and some think they're a 1 get more messages that someone who's an all round 7 to all guys. And I expect the same would be for shirtless dudes, some will hate, some will like but they'll still be moved one way or another.

Honestly though, your better bet than making a fake profile with a fake picture, is to make a profile in a big City (NY, LA, etc) and test it out there first. There are plenty of good looking women to try it on. That way you don't have to suffer through finding a cool girl in your home town and then having to explain to her that your profile pictures are fake.

seriously man, posting fake pics of good looking guys to test the water will do you no good whatsoever! If you really want to learn about online dating, post pictures of you in INTERESTING pictures, preferably with hot girls with you!

I found the best way to get girls online is to search for guys (sounds gay I know), then write the complete opposite of what they have written in their profiles! Never write AFC stuff like "I'm a nice guy" or "I would like to meet.....", LAME!

Always remember, the profile headline needs to grab attention, something like "I'm a selfish prick" should work nicely (they'll know that you're not really one, and they will get ur tactic, but just go with it), and always have something in the message headline that will grab their attention (I always use "Up for a challenge?").
