But if you show too much interest you just become one of those "nice friendly guys" she knows. If you already know the girl then its different, but if its a random person then you're likely to scare her off. You need to be playful, throw in a couple of negs and then begin to build attraction.
Would you go up to a random girl in a bar and tell her you like her? You could do that, but it's very unlikely to work because if shes hot, shes always being hit on. If you use a false dis-qualifier and you're playful with her, you're chances of getting her increase.
Just poke a random hot girl, when she pokes back, send her a cocky, playful message to get the conversation going.
