I don't intend to make this a sappy story, but I'd like to provide a premise for why I am here; I was dating a girl who came from a history of bad, douchebag-type boyfriends. She was very pretty but also incredibly insecure, and I was extremely nice to her (perhaps to a fault). Almost overnight 3 weeks ago, she zoned out completely, and I was left to initiate conversation on a daily basis. Confronting her led nowhere, and we eventually had a conversation in which she concluded that we should just be friends until "she figures herself out." I'm not an idiot, and based on some other strange behavior, I can tell that either her ex is back or she's being white-knighted by someone.

Case in point - I am honestly Tired of getting used. I am only 23, but I have the mind of a 35 year old, therefore it's hard for me to connect with girls my age. I don't have it in me to act manipulative, but it's unfair that they do the same. I am not insecure, and I can talk about anything under the sun with strangers, but acting mean is hard for me. I'd like to learn from some folks here (preferably in/around DC) on how to improve my weaknesses and just test out the waters. I know I have a lot to offer, but I don't know how to channel it to promote positive change.

Please advise.

Insecure girls with low self-esteem don't like themselves (obviously). So anyone who does like them is seen by them as a loser and guys who treat them badly are seen as attractive. You don't want to get seriously involved with girls like this. I promise there are normal, mentally healthy girls out there who want to be treated well (but in an attractive way).
