Don Draper - Mad Men

I urge any wannabe PUA to watch Madmen and see Don Draper at work. He does NOTHING on the surface but everything underneath. Nothing phases him, he is the ultimate PUA and i have learnt more watching the series than my 3 years doing PUA.

Amazing

Looking to characters in fictional dramatized settings for guidance on what to do in real life is a shaky road at best. While art imitates life, it's primary purpose is to entertain (at least when said art is sandwiched between advertisements), not to provide insight into human interactions. I'm not saying you can't take a character like James Bond and draw something from his poise or flair, but even when you start chopping characters down to individual elements in an attempt to learn something, I believe you're better off just analyzing those elements in reality.

In fact, I believe popular culture shoulders a large portion of the blame for today's crop of boys unable to begin accepting the path to manhood. There's no fathers, no real role models, just marketing. Before you know it some sophomore is interrupting cheer leading practice, singing show tunes over the PA, in hopes of winning the affections of some girl who doesn't even know he exists.

While you might see certain aspects of this character that underscore things you've learned in real life (where the real growth happens), understand that a rookie might read this post, buy several seasons of the show on DVD, and proceed to go out and try and be this guy. Why not just look at the traits you see in the character and find a parallel to something that involves real people, and not some writer's idea of how attraction works?

My two cents.

Although I have been watching Mad Men recently and have taken Don Draper as a life-long role model, I agree with what Wagon said. But, as with anything, I think its important that people observe and analyse things critically espicailly information that they plan to apply to their daily life.

Don Draper is a finalised article of a womans perfect pick up artist.
If you take out his looks, job , power it may now have the same effect.
The thing to look at though is how he carries himself, how little he says and how much effect he causes when he DOES say somthing.
PUA is baiting people to invest. You wouldnt see Don Draper doing a routine on a girl, they already know by how he carries himself that he is a mack.

And he never gives direct answers, even with his wife. That is something that keeps her hanging on a thread throughout the whole relationship. And thats good advice for keeping a 10

Movies are some of the best places to pickup on things like body language, voice tonality, fashion.... Both good or bad. Learn to see what theyre trying to be.

Professional actors know all the secrets of selling a character, whether it be a dominate guy or a sheepish guy or whatever. Think about movies where the same actor plays completly different characters. Notice what they do different. If a movie can make an audience 'feel' a certain way then why cant you learn to do the same thing in real life. Thats the object of the game isnt it?
