This is a question I often get. Yes, I work at Walmart (which is the #1 Fortune 500 company as of now) and have a Bachelor's degree. What is my degree in? Economics and a bit of accounting. A lot of guys think they will get rich after college, which is true if you plan on making a mint and buying lots of expensive items for 3 mistresses. The reality is though, cost of living is pricey in most places to live on your own. This still hasn't answered the title question:

1) People
2) Money
3) Effort put into getting hired and workplace

What do I do at Walmart? Cashiering. I work with people and handle money mostly. This helps me with my banking skills. I make more than most bank tellers in my area. I'm not saying this to brag, I actually looked into banking and decided to stay where I am.

1) If you enjoy sales and working with people, there are plenty of MILFs. I talk to a ton of mommies each day. You just have to remember how they got all those kids... lots and lots of hot sex.

2) The money isn't steller in retail, but I make enough to get by as long as I am careful with my budget. Beware of the store credit cards though. They look very tempting, but are often a trap to get you spending more at the store. (I rhyme all the time)

3) After putting a lot of my efforts into getting hired elsewhere, I started applying to retail and grocery stores. The ease of application to interview to hire was relatively worthwhile considering the training I recieved for this job. With the variety of people, I rarely get bored.

My job gives me a variety of experiences such as banking/investment/finance, human resources, marketing, and now that I have some seniority over the newer team members, I feel I can teach a little bit too. If you like working with a variety of people and talking, this is a great job sector. Lots of girls come through the stores too, so you will get used to talking to tons of cuties and get over a lot of that approach anxiety while making money doing it (working that is).

Are you saying that if you like money you should work as a cashier because you can see ALL THAT MONEY (dissappear in other people's pockets).

Don't you regret doing something useful? Instead of doing a job any teenager could do?

I'm not hating,

I'm saying I wouldn't want to do something someone a few years younger than me could do, especially if they didn't need a grade for it.

I always said if money weren't a problem, I'd be a courier just for fun(delivering flowers lol, they see the bouquet and think "lucky bitch" then breathe a sigh of relief when they notice the clipboard). Unfortunately money will always be an issue, so it's degree, suit and tie, etc for me.

Yesterday for my birthday, I got a few presents at work: a couple balloons, bag of Hershey's, a $10 gift card, and a card from many of my co-workers. They treat me fairly well there. I don't get where you guys think I cannot move up the ladder in retail and that it is a static "easy" work environment.
I hope you are joking Vaj. I see no merit in these two questions otherwise. Yes, I work at Walmart. Yes, we generally only hire adults. Most days I enjoy my job.

TBH my situation is different (as I live on the other side of the planet).

Cashiers here are 16 year old girls/boys.

I've worked in a supermarket for a few years myself, but america=/=netherlands.

If you don't relate to what I previously said. Then totally disregard it.

What's the purpose of this post? It sounds to me like you're just trying to justify your career choice to yourself because no one here asked you to.

Are you truly happy that you're not an investment banker? Is it just easier to work in Walmarts instead of spending all that time and effort on applications to banks?

Man, you guys really have it out for me. People kept asking me why I work at Walmart/retail with a college degree on this site, so I wrote this post. Investment banking? I went to Chico State with a B average (3.00) in college. You're asking me if I'm happy that I'm not an Ivy League grad with an MBA, an almost perfect GPA and years of experience. It's like asking me if I'm happy I'm not a brain surgeon with a PhD.

I applied to the banks. I make quite a bit more money than a teller does, especially with my recent raise after being with the company 3 years. Does that answer your question? Man... you guys really know how to hate on Walmart. That's my job. I enjoy my job most of the time.

I was just trying to ask the questions that you should be asking yourself. Who cares about what college you went to and what grade you got. If you want to be an investment banker, take steps towards becoming one! Apply for a job as a secretary there or take a course.

I'm not a genius, but then again I can safely say that I'm happy not being a brain surgeon with a PhD. Why? Because I don't want to be a brain surgeon!

So my point is, if you're truly happy working at Walmart then good for you. However if you're doing it because you think you're not good enough for a job you really want or because it's "easy" then do something about it.
