This came from a business ethics class at a catholic university.

In thinking about what you should do in an ethical dilemma, it can be useful to consider what your relevant community would consider to be the kind of decision that an individual of integrity would make in the situation. Begin by identifying the relevant professional or societal community. Then, determine how community members would evaluate the decision or action you’re considering.

Remember the disclosure rule. It asks whether you would feel comfortable if your activities were disclosed in the light of day in a public forum like the New York Times or some other medium. In general, if you don’t want to read about it in the New York Times, you shouldn’t be doing it. If you would be uncomfortable telling your parents, children, spouse, clergy, or ethical role model about your decision, you should rethink it.

Boris Yavitz, the former dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, offered another version of the test for New Yorkers: “Unless you would do it in Macy’s department store window at high noon, don’t do it.” And Thomas Jefferson expressed it like this: “Never suffer a thought to be harbored in your mind which you would not avow openly. When tempted to do anything in secret, ask yourself if you would do it in public. If you would not, be sure it is wrong.”

i really dont think this applys to PUA, the majority of ppl wouldnt have sex in the middle of Macy's, but does that make it wrong if they want to have sex? ethics is basically a theory that even people in business' dont stick to following.

What you're talking about is determining morals and ethics based on societal consensus, which is a very weak argument for how to determine what's right and wrong.

Take Plato's Allegory of the Cave, for instance. We've all learned about it in High School and in our Intro to Philosophy classes in college. In the allegory, the greater numbers of society would want to kill the man who brings them the light of truth because their comfort zone involves being in the dark.

It's especially ironic that this theory of ethics is coming out of a Catholic school, since Jesus experienced the same thing as the man in Plato's Allegory.

Your theory of supposed "ethics" applies greatly to business only because of the opportunistic nature of the field.

The only thing I am worried about is that it is a secret. Like I am not proud of going online and being labeled a PUA.

Socrates never hid his opinions about the way he thought. He was eventually killed because of the fear of men that hated him, and Socrates never repented during his trial because he wanted to prove a point- that the system of government can kill an inonnect man. He died for his morality in believing what is right.

Are you saying your willing to die for the idea of PUA being accepted by society?

I think the only reason some people are cool with the idea of being labelled a PUA and some people aren't is because of their understanding of what a PUA is.
What do you consider a PUA?
