I think of the human brain as an onion, with layers and layers of experience. The core layer (the middle), is stored within the unconscious, and not easy to reach. Here is the memories of a person when they first came into the world, the memories can not be accessed. Say you were to address the 7th layer. This is the 6 year old within you. You can address this layer, by talking about anything which they done at that age.
For istance, if you were to ask somebody what their favourite TV series were as a child, teletubbies or bob the builder for example, or their favourite toy that they never left unattended, you would be addressing their inner layers. Now if you can connect with a layer, EVERY LAYER AFTERWARDS, UP TO THE PRESENT LAYER, FEELS A SENSE OF COMFORT WITH YOU. A CONNECTION. For this reason we can create ultimate rapport just by asking what a females favourite toy, tv series, food and story was as a child, by stating that you have that in common with her. Not making myself clear? Here is an example -
"What was your favourite film as a young child? You know the kind which you can watch over and over, in complete awe, never getting tired of it? (pointing to self)"
"The lion king, I loved simba"
"Oh my god me too!"

That's all there is to it. You can then connect with every single layer afterward with ease, just by asking. For example, what was your favourite year in junior school, and why? Me too!

Simple.

Dunno if I'd go me too with everything. Perhaps if it is different:

"Ah I was into ..., but I remember that film/TV series and can understand why you liked it"

Perhaps a little less robotic than that though... but I dunno if I could say 'Me too' to everything. If you run into The Little Mermaid, saying you loved it too may make you look a tad gay...

I think the point is less that you agree on a favourite, rather that the two of you are reminiscing about younger days.

Its a combination of the memories of childhood, and the similarities between you both. You don't have to repeat the process over and over, you can just do it once. If you DO decide to do it over and over, it's advisable to have the similarity - BUT - you had a different favourite character for example.

Doesn't have to be a film, could be anything.

I forgot to mention that mirroring body language also works a treat within this routine.

I would copy+paste the pages that cover what you said, but I think you did a pretty good job doing it already.
