Everything is in terms of value. Whether it's social value, self value, or offering value ect. This is what makes everything tick: value.

So when you try to project value, you are actually losing value.

When you try to be cool, you aren't cool.

When you try to DHV, you are actually DLVing yourself.

When you try to get laid, you won't.

Everything in life, you must try. But for this, you must come to the self actualization that just being you is good enough for everyone . . .

Everything will be alright.

i think there is something missing from your equation:

our appearance

if you appear to be trying, then i agree, you are most likely are conveying the opposite of what you intend. this is of course, assuming that the target is a socially intelligent individual

to the contrary, trying to be cool, without appearing as though you are trying, can definately give you the appearance of actually being cool (regardless of whether or not you thought you were).

politicians understand this aspect of social dynamics very well. appearing to have certain characteristics will influence others more than actually having those characteristics without the ability to show them. see plato, aeristotle, and machiavelli these political philosophers have had a HUGE impact on the way modern politics work. say what you want about politicians, but they are the people that rule the world, literally!

i just want to set the record straight because i have an ethical issue with discouraging people from "trying". i truly want others to succeed at this, and i think that the minute we stop trying, we fail. self improvement is a PUA's best friend.

Thing is though, here is a classic example of NLP in action, "if something doesn't work, try something else", and I think this is what started this entire communty, guys trying something else. And it seems to be working for most, me included.

Can't see how I could be proven wrong on that.
