Hey guys,

I've been doing super well lately. Going out solo, getting no.s, got an SNL recently. Everything is fantastic. I've been getting my own group together, organising that to widen my social circle. But, my older brother who's a natural alpha keeps trying to knock me down.

Here's some of his comments:

"This has to be your updated profile photo as your other one is outdated - by the way how much did you pay them to be in your photo?"

"What can you bench press by the way? - Im well missing the gym at the moment!"

"Ive posted on the group that you are the administrator for!!!! HAHA! - The X Night Life Meetup Group is the LARGEST growing social group in X. Cool - am I the 2nd member? Can I still be part of the group though I live in the UK - we can make this worldwide!! How will the 8pm rule work if there are different time zones - maybe in the UK we can make it after 8am so we co-ordinate the times!!!!!!!!!!"

Any tips on how to handle this??

Bro, I'm with you on this. Check...

I'm sure our brother fallS short of one or two things which you have. Find out what it is and improve it. Make it spectacular to the square root of fucking fantastic!!

Next time he does this kind of thing, tell him elections for president of your fan aren't due till next week. Anything to shake him off. But take it as good practice against cockblocking and boyfriend destroyers.

Thanks a lot man.

The only thing though is like everytime he leaves a little DLV question for me, and I respond to it (Like, Shouldnt you be out on a ledge somewhere? credit seinfeld), its like I'm reacting to him. Its almost as if he doesnt even deserve a response. But if I dont respond then its as if Ive allowed him to win.

Like he goes:

"How much can you bench press by the way?" (he knows he's physically stronger than me). So I respond and go "Tell me how much you can bench press. I reckon I'm going to be REALLY impressed!!"

He's abusing the fact that he is a brother. And he has pigeon holed my percieved value. Is there a way to cut it off from the source? Like get him on my side, and stop all this DLVing behaviour, and then having to respond to it. Or is it just continuous like keep using one liners?

Dude, I think you're mistaking an alpha struggle for power for plain old sibling rivalry. Me and my little brother do this shit all the time; we aren't trying to "out-alpha" each other, we do it because we like to give each other shit. Just keep doing what you're doing, it doesn't matter how he treats you, all that matters is how you respond to it. Anyone can ask someone else what they bench. That does not show alphaness. You show alphaness by not being phased by a question, and betaness for shrinking under it.

Case in point, you're worrying about this too much. (besides, his comments don't seem to even be that degrading. I'm glad you aren't my lil bro; youd probably go insane from all the shit I give you)

Learn karate. Then kick his ass and tell him that was easier than lifting weights. He'll never bother you about weight lifting again. Or you could tell him you're going to the gym with him next time he goes, since it seems to be his thing. If you go, then you two will start to bond over it (my older brother and I did) and become something close to friends. When that happens, he'll probably stop giving you as much crap.
