I had been doing some thought on peacocking lately (obviously).
I have something I'd like to add to the theory.

Let's just quick-like establish the idea of peacocking:
Basically, you wear something that stands out, unique and different.
This causes extra attention to be paid to you ("Who's that guy?").
This attention amplifies what you do..... for example,
if you come off very cool, it'll make you seem ridiculously awesome.
But if you aren't that cool, you come off as a total douche bag.

Agreed?
Good.

Something I've come to realize,
(and I believe everyone else knows it, but just hasn't put 2 and 2 together)
is that clothing/accessories aren't the only form of peacocking.

Think about it.
Think of the last party you were at...
think of the really loud, obnoxious, crazy party guy.
That personality in itself, is a form of peacocking.
People either think he's cool as all hell, or he's a douche bag.
And it's a quick judgement, too... just like what we refer to with peacocking.

It's the same as if you're in a band (I know from experience).
After you get done playing, and you're out interacting,
people either love you or hate you... cause you're spotlighted.

I'm sure it's the same with other actions that bring the spotlight on you.
If you're the flashy dancer at the club in the middle of the circle.

Clothing, performance, etc... they're all forms of peacocking.

Just something I thought I'd add.

I agree 100%...

But I'm not too extreme with the peacocking...

But, I do like to mix and match, I dunno, my style works for me...

Hey Element,

I actually don't peacock as much as Mystery and Style do. But my usual forms of peacocking involve a neon bracelet, a finger ring, and some interesting necklace. I find that it usually serves its purpose in that it gets the question from the girl who was looking for something to ask about. And that when I jump in and start spitting game.

Respectfully,

M

i'm not big into peacocking, but i did recently pick up a great piece. a buddy of mine and i were hangin in for a night and decided to get chinese food. so we go down to pick it up, no delivery cuz i live in bumblefuck CT, and on the counter are these little magnets with crazy flashing bright LEDs in em. now this thing is no bigger than a quarter, but bright enough to light up a room. and i totally play it off as if it's not there. "what flashing thing? you're hallucinating". it's a great attention grabber and conversation starter and it cost only $1! at a chinese food resteraunt! well, just had to mention, some simple things work, especially if they're small but outrageous.

Just something amusing.
I post on how clothing/accessories isn't the only type of peacocking,
and everybody else replies with their clothing/accessories.
lol.

Did anybody get anything out of what I pointed out?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DRESS LIKE A HOLLYWOOD BILLBOARD TO PEACOCK.

Anything that will put you in the spotlight and get you recognized,
BEFORE people even have a chance to meet you, is a form of peacocking.
Performing is a form of peacocking.
Being louder and more obnoxious than everybody else is a form of peacocking.

*shakes head*

If anybody got anything out of what I posted, let me know.
It was just a random realization, from having been in a band,
and playing shows.

you're right, my bad. :) i definately get something from your post though. cpt. McLoudface who makes sure everyone hears him has attention. whether it's good or bad depends on the person hearing him. actions too, grandstanding in general will get attention. i think it's a venue that has more to discover in it, so that's why i think this post kees heading back to the peacocking that people are more familiar with. i think we're trying to build off that foundation, but it's really a whole differant thing. well worth looking into though, developing some techniques. if you have any you've tried let me know, i'll try some and let you know how they work for me too.
