When we first met and were dating, I could tell she thought a lot of me. I was on top form and my game was hella tight. Then I went through a depressing stage in my life, shut myself out, wasn't the same man she met anymore, and she slowly but surely cut me off. I didn't give a crap back then, I didn't care about much but I've been back to normal for a while now and she's been on my mind this last week..
She has a birthday coming up, and I am having a hard time thinking subjectively here. I want to send a simple happy bday text, without seeming like I'm trying to get back at her.
And I'm stumped, I really am.. what do you guys think? How can I word this kinda thing to max effect?

I'm going through a depressing point in my life right now, largely because I just moved in and am having trouble finding a job, but I did f-close the other day, so that felt better.
I don't see the harm in just sending her a simple birthday greeting. But make it more than simply "Happy Birthday." Put some pizzazz into it. _________________ Rated R!

"Happy Birthday xx hope you're looking after yourself"
What you reckon? I want to keep it that simple, due to the history and whatnot. I really have no way of knowing what she thinks of me these days lol..
