As the introvert geek I used to be, I started when I was about 20 (I'm 36 now). I did it on my own though, since this community didn't exist back then. I was very analytical and even wrote my own pickup guide, but it wasn't close to as good as the stuff you can find today.

Then I got stuck in a 10 year long relationship, and didn't resume my "pickup career" until I was 33, looking at MM, RSD and others. It only took 3 extremely intensive months before I was stuck in another relationship. I went out extremely often and analyzed every little thing I did and didn't do. But it was the year after I met my current girlfriend - when I stopped trying - that I learned the most.
