So, brief background. Myself and a buddy or two have been going out for wings and beer the past few months (different places each time). We try and chat up the bartenders/servers, most study at the local Uni. Obviously the goal is to get a number and see where it goes. I've used a more direct approach, usually near the end I'll get up and catch the server walking around. Stop her and ask for her number. My one friend is adamant that writing a little note, his number on the bill, etc. something creative is much better, that by approaching her while working is far too stressing.

Now, I usually don't pay too much attention for such a small thing. Seems pretty minor but it's interesting - Is there really a negative side to either approach?

I assume that whether you go direct/indirect may depend on your situation. Sometimes it's better to just be direct about it. Other times, why not, write your number of the bill.

1. It's far too stressing for who? You or the Waitress?

2. Are you talking to the girl before you write your number on the receipt? How do you know she would want to call you?

I love how you answered your own question, CanuckEH. Direct approaches work best in a high energy environment and on high self-esteem people. Indirect approaches work best during the day and on shy girls.
