1. You are totally blanked. (this still gives an opportunity to re engage)
2. You are shit tested.
3. You have a long interaction that leads to a flake.

There are different levels of rejections to soft ones to hard - f off, this is rare.

Every cold approach is an opportunity to try your stuff, frame control and dominance. As long as you are willing to continue to practice your isolation, extraction and compliance on a set that does not have much attraction. So within an extraction there every compliance test u give that is either is a yes ladder for you or a rejection ladder for them.

The issue is not black and white. One who does a lot cold approaches will have a different type of confidence to one one that gets a lot of warm approaches. I am making an observation here, its not fair to say what is ideal, however to those that get a lot IOIs that's cool. But I will be honest without doing a few cold approaches I cannot build state, no alcohol and primarily solo I accept and enjoy the hard work involved.

Gaining confidence and F Closes is not the same thing. One can have F Closes success but have innergame issues and lack confidence with other social situations.

The opposite to cold approach is warm approach, unless u r some natural it will take cold approach experience to be able to recognise an approach invitation. However able to recognise my wing getting more IOIs then he can see, I guess a third person is objective. Since I do this for confidence I deliberately do sets that are difficult, so I am training myself not to give a shit whether someone likes me or not, however this may be preventing me from being good at recognizing warm approaches, although they do happen, If I only looked around for warm approaches I would consider myself a coward. This is my standard, I do not judge naturals with my own standards they are good at what they do.

Majickal post is nice about getting rejected, getting a blank is not a proper rejection as it was not a committed approach, otherwise the person would have stopped. Everything is a practice run for a warm approach. Getting a bad rejection is rare, mostly people would talk until u start boring them, but the disproportionate fear is sometimes real.

Cheers.
