I'm doing some research on my own for work and was hoping you guys could help me out with something.

If you went a restaurant like say Chilis, Red Robin, Outback, or others like that and they brought out a dessert display for you to choose from, how much of a different would it make on if you'd buy a dessert if the item was fake food?

what i mean by this is instead of the real thing it's an exact copy with the same shape and even textures but made of plastic or another compound. It's exactly like the fake fruit you see on kitchen tables that you don't even notice that they're fake until you actually go to take a bit out of one.

Would this happening be more likely to: (and your reasoning behind your decision would be greatly appreciated as well)

A) Make you more likely to purchase the dessert because you find it pretty cool that fake food can look so real, etc.

B) Not have any impact of whether you'd buy the dessert whether the display item was real or fake food

C) make you less likely to purchase the dessert because it's fake (even though it looks like the real thing).

On a side note, all of the displays are for display only. The desserts ordered all come fresh out of the kitchen.

I am turned off a lot by the idea of fake things that are meant to immitate the real thing. If I didn't have any clue, then it wouldn't be a factor, but if I knew that it was fake, then I would be much less likely to be interested.

Personally I like picking food from the pictures, because it's a picture of real food, even if it has been hand crafted to look as good as possible, there is the possibility that it might come out looking just as good as in the pic.
