I started hanging around the pickup world in 2005/2006 and its not until later that i noticed that the guys who were around at that time were intelligent and quite intellectual. they ranged from professional poker players to bankers. The more ive thought about the pickup world its designed to cater more for guys like this more then anyone else. starting with ross jeffries all the way to current day the guys who appear at bootcamps and buy products are majority intellectuals. to show why intellectuals need this more then the normal guy im going to tell you about an episode of the big bang theory im going to include a youtube video as well. I know what your thinking but what does this have to do with me well sadly you're sheldon, and this isn't really a good thing. what the pua community does really is over complicate dating into a formula or algorithm that an intellectual understands.
Intellectuals cant just see the easy in front of them as we look for the complicated.
Think about this when mystery came on to the scene there was FMAC and then the 12 stages. Adam lyons created the attraction formula, neil strauss created l.a.s.v.e.g.a.s , kezia noble created the hook lead system, and so on.

This is why when guys get into the scene some grasp the concept really easily and some guys dont. this is because the guys who grasp it are intellectuals and the guys who arent intellectual dont. That isnt intended as an insult. but the systems for pu are not designed for you. Think about it this way a jock or a rock star doesnt need to read a book on meeting women he already does so why would the pu world need to worry about him and being honest how many over intelligent jocks or rock stars are there...

Your post reeks of giving up, I know because I've been there many times Haven't you ever seen the disabled kid or the awkward looking person become extremely successful in something and defies all the odds? I can think of one off the top of my head and that's the guy from SYTYCD Brian something. He was short, nerdy looking and suffered from a disease curving of the spine. And yet he danced like a boss and last time I heard he was in a dance group with two other dancers touring the world.

I know I'm new here but your analogies aren't comparable. It's not that PU isn't applicable to jocks or rock stars it's just that besides jocks or rock stars being glorified by many women they already have loads of confidence in themselves which already demonstrates higher value to women, on the surface most would say oh chicks just dig him coz he's in a band but fail to notice guys in performing bands have a certain charisma and confidence hence why they're comfortable performing and get all the girls. It's something they do, (yes I know they didn't need to read about it) but it's the same as psychology and human factors (or even some business subjects) PU is the explanation why certain things (that are taken for granted by some) happen explained in words.

Also with some guys grasping the scene easily and others not from my own experiences and others I've known it all depends on what information you were able to gather throughout your life experiences (or experience through others) and how well you coped with them. Also different people respond to different triggers which stimulates learning differently. The PU stuff I've read so far remind's me of my university texts, often long winded and covers as many aspects and variables in an attempt to be clear and concise. Some may understand and are able to filter through the key points whereas others may need an explanation and summary and while the summary may not be entirely accurate it enables the person to progress through the learning process and usually fills in the gaps later on when other related knowledge is learnt.

Also another problem is cognitive tunnelling or fixation. When someone seems to get close to a solution it's hard to see another way or means to get by it. So for a lot of the people that repeatedly make the same mistakes because they've now gotten used to a way of doing things its hard for the logical mind and top down processing to figure out a solution to the problem, a problem which someone is probably oblivious to.

To sum up I personally wouldn't say PU is catered towards a specific crowd.
Maybe a good portion of PUA are intellectuals since most intellectuals believe knowledge is power and seek out that knowledge.
But assuming most people can read, I believe PU is catered towards most people.

AFC Adam used to say that if you are into Pick up. You're a nerd, because Nerds over-think things.

To a certain extent that is true, pick up artists have a habit of seeing something happen in dating and wondering "Why did that happen?" and "If I do the same thing, will that happen to me?"

This curiosity is powerful, it should be fostered and grown because "wonder" can drive people to excellence and its understanding dating on this obsessive micro-level that sets the pick up world apart from other "dating philosophies".

That is not to say that pick up is exclusionary, merely that by it is often obsessive and analytical practise. There have been a couple of negative reactions to the nerd approach to pick up, but even those reactions have come with their own rationalised formulae of "Do X and get Y result" namely "over-think and fail".

This forum has become such a mental masturbation and KJ board.

The Noise:signal ratio is outstanding. You can tell when people don't go out because they post aimless stuff or 'philosophy' etc.

Pua forum = go out = post results = post up observations and POSSIBLY advice, tips, techniques = go out and rinse repeat.

This forum is too big I think, there's no sense of community. And Mods do nothing at all. If anything mods just encourage the KJ's.

Who cares why the pick-up world exists. Be glad you have people who will help you with dating advice ONCE you are out there.

No wonder anybody who gets anywhere at this leaves this forum.

I kinda see your point. I got into pick-up as I was unsuccessful with women and needed to deal with it, and when I first got into it, after two weeks of reading, I was confident that I could attract EVERY SINGLE WOMAN that I meet, but what a cute thought that was LOL.

I like psychology, reading body language, predicting what will happen in a social interaction...etc, add women in the equation you get PU community and that stuff becomes the most entertaining bit of psychology you looked at. The question is, can we really depend on it for a high success rate?

Some routines are awesome and fun, some make sense, others make sense but I won't dare to try them because they conflict with who I am. The problem is where you follow this as a robot because some PUA said it worked! Well, whilst you're thinking about how the date is going with that hot chick, you're too distracted and chances are you're too busy trying to impress her with routines when you could of really enjoyed her company most likely she would of liked you more then...

I have a friend who is successful almost every single weekend, new girl everytime, but what he says to girls is stuff I'm too shy to say because they will see I didn't mean it and catch me sweating and create awkwardness, he's comfortable with it, they love it, I'm not, so it won't come accross smoothly for either of us, what do we have here? a difference in character between me and him.

The problem is you feel uncomfortable trying these routines and canned material, don't try it! be yourself, but come visit this forum to discuss how to behave around women, punishment and reward for example is something every man should be aware of. So whilst there is a lot of crap being posted here about how to robotically act, there is also good posts about experiences and why its important to be positive and confident around women. What you say, and how you behave are hardly connected....

Social interactions can't be explained in a mathematical or formulated since, anyone that says it can be is just selling their product. social interactions and attraction is a complicated dance between people, although there are universal truths in some areas they're basically all super common since.

PU isn't a world, its a discipline, learning how to deal with people in any situation and most importantly learning how to convey your intentions in a sexual manner is what PU is really about.

the problem as a previous poster said is we have a tendency to way over think everything, the other thing is the problem with pu forums is guys hit a road block and come on a forum and say what do i do next?? the truth is theres no wrong or right answer what happened for person A may not work for person B so coming onto a forum then saying what do i do next is futile.. the guy responding isnt there so he doesnt know what shes like only the original posters opinion.

Think about this some guru comes out and says i have a 100% foolproof system that will get you laid every single time all you have to do is take the girl through these steps exactly, you meet a girl and start taking her through the steps and then guess what she says and does something unexpected now shes messed up your steps what do you do?
a) say ok nice talking to you bye and leave
b) call up the teacher pay more money to learn how to get out of that situation
c) call your friends and ask what to do next
d) come on to an internet forum and ask
e) improvise
