A teacher's reputation is his bread and butter. And women talk. No matter how discreet one tries to be the word gets out may be the student wants to brag or has a bad break off.

I know people who have married coworkers but they have always made sure that there is no power position involved after both have felt some attraction. It always ends up ugly if one fails to keep it in their pants at work place.
Well most people are in a power/no-power position to each other in some way. (Unless you count random people in the street.) Landlord, teacher, boss, secretary, mentor, busdriver, pilot. As far as teacher is concerned, as soon as the student passes the exam of the course you are teaching, it stops being a student and becomes a real person but with the state of mind that you have once been in a power position and that will stick.
