I was out in a club called the Queen of Hearts last night with a large group of friends but not really feeling it.

Anyway, one of my female friends and I noticed that I was recieving a lot of looks from this HB8 who was also in a large mixed group just sitting a short distance away from us in fancy dress costumes.

I am new to the game so suffer from some approach anxiety and was feeling tired so didn't approach her until we were about to leave and my friend bet me that i couldn't get her number.

I walk up over to the group and addressed her directly
ME: hey, i couldn't help but notice you looking at me earlier.
guy puts his arms round her and says he is her boyfriend.
ME: Oh don't worry, i just saw you lot and this seemed like the cool place to be.
This seems to have disarmed him so he backs off
ME: so what are you all dressed up as
She is showing positive body language and responds
HB8: Oh the theme is, what you wanted to be when you grew up
ME: so what are you dressed as then?
HB8: oh the queen of hearts, which is actually the name of the club we were in
ME: Oh yeah, well i think that's what we all wanted to be when we grew up
She laughs and i turn to the guy who has returned and is wearing a fighter pilot outfit.
ME: so i suppose you are dressed as the queen of hearts too then?
HB8 laughs again
Guy: no i'm maveric from Top Gun
ME: oh right yeah I see.
I wisper to the girl
ME: so i have to get beck to my friends who are leaving now, but was wondering if you would give me your number, unless of course, this is really your boyfriend
HB8: oh no, he isn't but unfortunately I am seeing someone
ME: Ah ok then, well it was a pleasure meeting you.
I leave.

Overall I think it was a good learning experience and good fun and i think i know where I went wrong:
- I didn't approach soon enough
- I didn't DHV enough
- I addressed her directly
- I didn't have enough time so perhaps rushed into asking for her number without building enough comfort.

Anyway, I was hoping for some tips on how to improve my game and just looking to share my experience with anyone very new to the game.
