| So yesterday my buddy Rich calls me up and asks me if I wanted to go to the bar with him and his cousins who were leaving town the next day. So with not much else to do on a Friday night, I accepted his invitation and went out ready to game. I drove over to his place and met his cousins, 3 girls, and a guy. None of the girls were worth gaming at all, but to their credit they were very nice people. From there we rolled to the bar where we waited in line for about 20 mins before we got inside.
Something interesting happened though while were in line. As Im waiting, im standing there and checking out the girls in the line, and I notice 3 girls who I went to high school with. Good for social proof you think? Wrong, I couldnt stand any of these girls back in the day, and actually almost fought (haha) one of the girls at a New Years Eve party 2 years ago (which I wrote an FR about). The feud started with the girl because she cockblocked me back in the day, but thats a whole nother story. My point is, it was a little bit of a buzz killington moment at the start of the night, however it actually motivated me to game hard, and try and get a makeout with someone in front of them. Just to stick it to them haha.
Anyways back to the important stuff. So we had to split our group up to get in since we had to many people so Rich, his guy cousin, and I get in the bar first and we promptly grabbed a table and ordered a pitcher of beer. I should note that my buddy is an AFC, and his cousin looked like one to, so I knew that I was gonna need a little bit of liquid courage to get things started. So we had a couple of pops, and eventually we joined up with the rest of my friends cousins.
At this point we were about 30 mins into the night and I hadnt approached any sets yet. I was starting to panic, and the AA was seriously starting to kick in. The more I thought about it as a big deal, the bigger deal it became in my mental state. I needed to open someone, or anything. And sure enough this guy bumps into me, and throws up his hands and says sorry dude. And I say fuck it in my head. It may be a dude, but I needed to get into a talkative social state. So I go into this whole bit of how thats the standard response at the bar when you bump into another guy. How we just walk around trying to avoid a fight. Throw up your hands and apologize.
The guy ends up being a huge beauty and buys me a beer after our little convo, and turns into my wingman for the night haha. My friend Rich was making excuses of how he just wasnt feeling it. So I just decided "hey why not", and approached a 4 set with this guy Ben I met. In the set there was a HB9, and HB7, a dud girl, and this random guy trying to game the HB9.
So I decide to open the HB7...
ME: Hey I noticed your tattoo on your back, and was just wondering what do you think of girls with tattoos?
HB7: Response
ME: The reason I ask that is because my little 17 year old sister wants to get a tattoo of her boyfriends name on her arm... (completely untrue btw, I dont have a sister haha)
As soon as I finish the backstory the HB7s face just lights up and just gets all opinionated and me and this guy Ben were now locked in the set. Eventually the random dude was blown out by the HB9 and I was trying to hook her in the set. Me and Ben were holding our own in the set, but he eventually peaced the set to go take a piss. So I was sitting there trying all I could to hold this 3 set all by myself. In my head im just panicking and Im pretty much just saying anything and everything. Thankfully I was getting some laughs, and they seemed genuinely interested in me. But it was to much for me to handle without some help, and eventually the dud girls says they should go find their other friend, and that was that.
Ben eventually comes back from the restroom and go off to try and find another set to open. We head over to the other side of the bar, and I notice one of the girls I cant stand glaring at me, and just said "maybe lets just stay over on that side of the bar" so I quickly turn around and try and b-line it the other way and as Im doing so this HB6 bumps into me and spills her drink all over my arm. And we literally just stood there looking from face to arm to face to arm for a few seconds and I finally broke the ice and said...
ME: So...was that my fault or your fault?"
Her HB8 friend then jumps in and says...
HB8: Do we owe you a drink? or do you owe her?
Me: I think she owes me one haha
HB6: No owes me a drink!
HB8: How bout we settle this with rock, paper, scissors! I'll face you (referring to me), and HB6 will face him (reffering to Ben)...
(if that isnt an IOI, I dont know what is haha)
HB6: No!, Im facing him in RPS (reffering to me). Best 2 out of 3.
Anyways, we play RPS, and I beat her 2 games to 1 and Ben beats the HB8, so they both owe us drinks. However, at this point I realize its getting late and I gotta drive everyone home soon so I tell the HB6 that she should give me her number instead of a drink. So even though I didnt really want to, I still #closed for the sake of it. I then switch my attention over to the HB8 and I tell her "I have an even better game than RPS" and I tell her to give me her hand, and she complies. And then I start a thumb war with her haha. This is the second time Ive tried using thumb wars to game, and I have to say, Its fucking golden. The girls love it.
So me and Ben end up holding the set for a few more minutes and eventually we sort of flame out. However, I still felt it was a good set. At this point though it was nearing 2 am, and I needed to get home so I round up my original crew and bounce. Overall it was a good night and I felt I made alot of progress in terms of being able to hold a set like that. Usually I flame out pretty quickly, but I was able to hold 2 different sets for a solid duration of time without it being awkward or anything. As well I got some sort of result because I did # close, but since shes only a 6 I probably wont follow up on it.
