Field Report – Waitress Number-Close

Nothing very impressive here, it ended up being a bit of an awkward and lazy pickup. But a number-close is a number close.

I took four of my friends out to eat. It was just going to be a nice night out with them, I didn’t even want to pickup any girls. However, I have an addiction and it demanded to be fed. The waitress was an HB8 and I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied with myself if I didn’t try.

Smiley: Hey, come over here for a minute, I have to ask you a question.

She comes over and smiles, like any waitress would.

Smiley: It’s really random.

She smiles again but I can see some confusion on her face.

Smiley: What’s cuter an otter or a penguin?
HB8: Umm…penguin.
Smiley: Why’s that?
HB8: I don’t know I just don’t think otters are very cute hahaha they’re too furry.
Smiley: I think it’s because penguins wear little tuxedos….
HB8: And because they’re cute hahaha.
Smiley: Alright, true. I have another question.
HB8: What?
Smiley: Are you wearing a ring?

I was going to ask for her number earlier that night but right when I was going to I noticed her wearing a ring on her left ring finger, so I didn’t. Obviously, I ended up changing my mind and went for it.

HB8: Yeah.
Smiley: Does that mean you’re taken?
HB8: Hahaha no….
Smiley: Oh, what’s it mean then?
HB8: It’s a promise ring.
Smiley: Sooooo…you’re taken hahaha.
HB8: No hahaha it’s from my dad.
Smiley: Oh ok.
HB8: (smiling) Why do you ask?
Smiley: Well I was gonna hit on you but then I noticed the ring….

When I said this she started laughing and she turned to leave. For a second a thought it was just a rejection, but then she spun right back around and smiled at me again. I just smiled back while she stood there, kind of awkwardly. She spins and takes a couple steps away again then, once again, spins around and comes right back. I take the hint to proceed.

Smiley: So can I have your number?
HB8: Sure, I’ll write it down. I just have to be careful nobody sees (referring to her boss and coworkers).

At that I was just thinking to myself, “Ok…that’s weird. I could have just pulled my phone out and you could say it but it’s cool I’ll let you be yourself hahaha.”

Smiley: Ok.

She walks away. Then one of my friends says something.

Friend: Do you think she’s gonna come back with her number?
Smiley: She’ll come back with A number. I don’t know if it’ll be real.

She comes back with her name and number on a little card.

HB8: Do you do this to all the girls?

It’s surprising how many girls ask me this…I decided to just be honest.

Smiley: No, only the cute ones. (I neglected to mention that I meet A LOT of cute girls, but I didn’t lie to her.)
HB8: Hahaha ok. (She hands me the card)
Smiley: Thanks.

So as you can see, I was kind of lazy on this pickup. I’m kind of assuming the promise ring from her dad is a type of purity ring (if anyone knows what else it might be, feel free to let me know) which would kind of suck…lol. Oh and for those who are wondering, yes it ended up being her real number. Here’s the first text I sent and the first text I received.

Smiley 8:07PM: This is a VIP number, store with care. –Smiley
HB8 8:14PM: Hahaha, k I will STORED WITH CARE

From my experience so far, when a girl sends me a smiley in her first text it’s usually a pretty good sign.
