no white after labor day

So many people say "no white after labor day" (in the USA, its a holiday that was a few weeks ago) but I don't know what it means. I do live in a South Eastern coastal town, so there is not much change of seasons here. Should I not wear white for autumn? What colors should I wear? Dose it even mater when it is still 84 degrees fahrenheit (29 Celisius)?

I posit that every day is technically "after" labor day. So it's moot.

I think that old adage applied only to women, and not to men. Either way, it is widely considered outdated and nobody really pays it any mind anymore, aside from perhaps extremely stuffy, pretentious, self-important people. And who cares what they think anyway?
