OK this is all daygame related.

Since going out sarging spontaneously I am alright with stopping HBs especially in somewhere busy in town. Usual openers include asking for directions somewhere (and usually my reasons for going to said place are genuine), I usually stop with a charismatic smile and an opener like "Sorry/Excuse me, you seem like someone who may know the answer to this question....." and proceed.

Thing is I know all the banter bits are situational and spontaneous and that is the challenge. You, as a sarger, have got to be very quick witted to come up with something clever which let's be honest can not be done on the spot. And I often have problems here. As I am getting an answer to my original question and I make say some trite compliment about what the girl is wearing - that's the thing, it seems so lame and forced. And then it is time for her to walk off as I am now in nothing more than an awkward pause of silence.

Any good ideas for really breaking down those walls of long pauses and keeping her attention before she walks off and I have not done enough to command her attention long enough?

Here's the thing with daytime spontaneity, while wittish, the girl can sometimes detect something up with body language (which i hope you have covered)
BUT

Negs are a biggggggg thing here, you have to use palm sweat tricks after being all like "oh im sorry how rude of me my name is..." and go for the hand shake and the whole thing.

If your looking for more situational you can use the article of clothing but the big mistake here is that men are all like "OMG WHT UH CUTE DREESSS WHERE U GET IT" like you care, dont act gay if you use this tactic, act mesmerized.

Always act like "I gotta go, soon, this is just a little chat" always body swing away from her, NEVER FOLLOW HER, if she has to go drop the set and move on.
