When is it ok to be corny? Girls say that they like that crap but here it's the opposite.

What exactly do you mean by corny?

If you deliver a classic terrible "chat up line" with a knowing, slightly sarcastic grin and bags of confidence, then it will work fine. If you do it in a naive, serious way, it may go down far less well.
