The last few weeks I've been taking this Turkish international student out to date, and it turned out she thought they were hangouts. I had to bail on playing basketball with her (broke my ankle), and asked her on a date via txt, this was her answer.

"i think when i told you you didn't ask me if i was single or not you thought i was joking. I mean im technically not with anyone, but i cannot date anyone. You never asked and i'd though it would be obnoxious to say I could grab lunch with you."

English isn't her native language, but what do I take from this? Do I keep pursuing it, or did I get friend zoned?

Could just pretend like you knew they were hangouts and neg her for thinking they were dates. In a fun way of course. Then just keep hanging out and running game, see where it goes?

Or you could just bail, and move on. =/
