I was wondering about how set-up the show really is? I was out yesterday and my friend was like yeah its all faked and he felt a bit down about it. I know like one actor is used, but is it worst then that? or is that the worse who am i to know?

Spark.

In the first series several people who have acting backgrounds were used on the show. It makes sense for a few reasons. If your on the first season of the show all you want is a second season. Actors are great at memorizing lines and scripts like the Mystery Method so you'll get better results.

#2 Most of those people are trying out for the shows in order to start their acting careers. Many reality TV shows have actors on them.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "Fake" but the first season was a little more hand picked. The second you had to vote on a website for who went then they narrowed it down from there. There isn't much on the 2nd season to say it was rigged.

Plus you know it works, I know the method works, many others know it works, so why does it really matter what they do for TV. That's just for money and to feed Mystery's personality, as he "speerheads" this cultural evolution as he'd say.

Oh ok,

I was just curious to know about it, as being in Britain we dont have it here (well not on unpaid for TV). Thinking about it, it does make sense, but complete newbies or even worse would be better in my opinion as then they would actually have to work; many actors have a good frame for example already, where as WBAFC's or AFC's who clean bins for a living (as an example dont kill me) wont?

I really think the show was authentic.....The contestants were pretty big likeable douche bags.....

It took them quite a while to progress on the show....

there are target rich grocery stores

if i go to let's say an Albertsons or a Ralphs here there's not alot of targets. But, there are markets here in LA that have alot of younger crowd.

i know in the LA area there are alot of young women that shop at Trader Joes. they sell specialty items and organic foods. also at farmers markets you can always find a younger crowd coming to check out the different vendors.

i don't know the name of the market they went to but it's very possible that they were authentic. i can't say for sure bc i was not associated with the making of TPUA but you get the picture.

----

one thing i always picked up on was they say, "There are no paid actors in the club" but if you play on words they didn't actually say "Paid Actresses."

either way, i liked the show. it is what actually got me jumpstarted into the PU world. after watching TPUA i went out to buy MM and The Game. it definitely served an important role in my growth.

when i try to teach my AFC buddies about pickup, i usually have them watch TPUA first.

This is what I'm curious about, too. I just finished watching season 1 and I definitely enjoyed it and look forward to checking out season 2. But I have some suspicions about the women that were used.

I just don't understand how they're able to legally put cameras and microphones in a public place and tape it if the people in the bar are not aware of it. I can't imagine that they could put these people on a TV show without their knowledge and consent. (I suppose they could ask the girls afterwards or have them sign release forms before they enter the bar or something)

Also, if you noticed, there are some people in the background in some of the bar/club episodes that have people's faces blurred out. why is that? It just doesn't add up for me.

I have no problem if one of the contestants has an acting background or something, but I would feel very cheated if the girls in the clubs/bars that they are trying to pick up are actresses.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

If theyre not paid actors, then yes, they asked the girls for the permission afterwards, maybe a little economic incentive to let them use the material, maybe some of them didn't wanted to, so thats why we don't see many approaches.
And well, the faces that are blurred are people that didn't approved to appear, or they never found them, so they blur the faces.

"Free cover charge, half price drinks, you just have to sign this form. Excellent."

Not sure, but I bet that would work to get a lot of people in if they were trying to pack the bars for this show. I see enough real nightclubs doing that in off season, so it doesn't seem that far out there.

Crowded places where there are too many people to get to sign a consent forum, or public places where many people pass through, a notice is put up that being in the area counts as permission to film you on camera. After the filming it is quite likely that they approached the women with a release form and asked them to sign it. Insentives to permit fliming do not count as hiring actors.

I just watched all of season two and it was pretty obvious that some of the people in that show were aspiring actors. Those are the people out there trying out for reality TV shows to try to get noticed, so that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

As for the girls in supermarkets being hired actresses or whatever, I am not convinced. I live in one of the most backwards US states there is and our one major city has an upscale organic/upscale grocery store that is filled with hot women. I wrote up a post about sarging there. If it can happen in Portland Maine then it can definitely happen in much cooler places like Scottsdale AZ or wherever they filmed season 2.

that makes sense, and i definitely agree that that wouldn't constitute using actresses imo.

thanks for the responses guys.

I actually had to look up "actors" once because I turned a paper in for an extreme feminist professor and she objected to the apparent lack of gender neutrality in the term (gotta love college, huh?). Turns out "actors" is the gender neutral term for a group of thespians.

As for the disclaimer, "there are no paid actors in this bar", I never saw the show, but if you take the phrase apart it looks like they could have paid people to act in it without them being considered actors legally by the union. In other words, if they don't have a SAG card they are not actors. IDK, I'm not a lawyer.

One thing I never understood is shooting permits. It makes no sense to me. I used to think you can snap photographs and film in any public place and do whatever you want with it because you can film or snap pictures anywhere that people do not have a "reasonable expectation of privacy". That's why you don't have to get somebody's permission to put a video of them on the 11 o clock news if they are filmed robbing a bank or saying something stupid in front of the camera (like a politician or a tea party protester). That's also the principle that allows the paparazzi to work. Entertainment laws are crazy.

Reality TV is about as real as pro wrestling anyway.
