So I have a girlfriend, and I'm also close friends with a girl in one of my classes (we sit together each lecture), but every class or so the friend asks me "so how's your girlfriend?". My question is, is giving me IOIs with this or just being nice?

Wouldn't you agree that the more context available, the better advice somebody could give?

I'm interested in the dynamics of whats going on, so it's easier to get a handle on how to move forward. I'm not probing because I care, I'm asking because it may shed more light on the situation.

That's why you're on this forum right?

You gave us literally 2 sentences on your "situation." I'd say its fair to ask for more information.
