She's a defector! I love it. LoL - just kidding.
Let me ask this - I met a girl the other night, and did the "let me get your opinion on something" bit. Basically I said "I have a friend who's stuck in the Friend Zone and wants to break out. But I know he's gonna get shot down. What should he do?"
After the girl is done rendering her advice, however, there isn't anything to continue on the conversation. I'm normally not so bad at keeping a conversation going, but what happens when you hit dead silence and she has nothing to say?
Looking forward to the advice.

PS - Cunning Linguist.... awesome name. hahaha.
First off, I think the "let me ask your opinion" is def a good move. It is bound to get some response. I think that particular question was a little too deep for an opener though. You want her to get a sense of who you are...not your friend--though that makes you look like a loyal friend. My first suggestion would be to use a more light-hearted question such as:
"I want to buy a dog but I have no clue what to name it...any ideas?"
"I have an awesome idea for a tatoo but im not sure where to get it"
"There is a girl at this club that I want to get to know better, what should i do...should i ask her for advice on something or should i buy her a drink (insert different options there)? ---if she assumes it is her it is perfect for a neg.
Those are some quick ideas but there are a lot more (and better--he he) ones already posted on this site. This already puts the focus on you and you get a sense of who she is by her answer. Such as the tatoo one--she says oh what do you want to get blah blah blah...i think you should get it on your shoulder...YOU: do you have any? HER: yes YOU: well im going have to see your credentials before i take your advice.
I think when your opener is about YOU, it will be easier to transition. If there is still silence just neg her. --"Are you always this social?" or "Can you stop talking for one second so I can say something?"
Hope that helps!
