firstly, I have found that if you feel that freezing up uncomfortable silence (when you actually feel your body tense up right?) then you just say the first thing that comes into your head!!! I know that sounds weird or you might say something really odd, but it doesn't really matter. what it does is it stops that tense feeling inside and your mind begins to flow again, if it is something really weird then you can make a joke of it. Doesn't matter as long the silence isn't there for too long. I found that after that my brain is relaxed again and we end up talking about something new and unrelated to whatever just happened. After a while you will find some common ground again and the conversation flows again.
secondly and shamefully I drink a bit more now, haha as sad as it sounds drinking stops you worrying about whether you are saying the right things. However I often drink just a bit too much and start jabbering bollox. Something i need to correct in my game haha,
hope this helps dude
