Hi Dj.
When I moved from Orange County to San
Francisco, there was one place I wanted to
see right away.
Alcatraz. The Rock.
The world's most famous prison sits on an
island just a mile away from one of the
world's most beautiful cities.
It's a place of darkness and despair where
the worst of the worst of society were
exiled.
Some were even confined to complete blackness
and separation in solitary confinement, all
just minutes from a vibrant, open and
friendly city full of beautiful women.
I didn't know why I wanted to see this place
so bad. I didn't know why thousands of other
people crowded the docks at Fisherman's Wharf
that sunny Sunday either.
We were all lined up, weirdly eager to take a
ride to a place that just years before meant
a long, slow, lonely death for any man sent
there.
What fascinated me about The Rock? Why do
millions of people take time and spend money
to see it? What is it about this place that
calls to us?
I had an idea.
See, before I spent years busting my hump
learning what women really want, how to bring
out the attractive qualities in every man,
started PickUp101, and created my
best-selling program Surefire Attraction
Secrets (http://pickup101.com/attractionsecrets), I
was an engineer.
I would spend my days alone in a cubicle
doing work that didn't make any real changes
for people. I'd puzzle over logic problems on
my computer, or look for ways to avoid
confrontation with people who were always
looking to fill my time with the busy-work
they wanted to avoid.
Me and and my co-workers, guys just like me,
spent most of our waking hours doing work
that really didn't matter to us. We never
talked. We never connected. It just never
occured to us that we all might have real
lives, dreams, and passions.
So instead we killed time (great phrase,
isn't it?) with movies, comic books and video
games.
Sure, sometimes in our "free" time, we'd talk
about what we would do with our lives
someday. Maybe we'd win the lottery. Or maybe
we'd have a great internet idea and get rich.
And when that day came? What was it we were
all REALLY waiting for?
A girl.
That was the dream we all dreamed.
Someday we'd get the girl.
Someday, when we weren't confined, and alone,
and cut off from the world.
Someday we'd be free.
I walked into one of the open cells that day
on The Rock. I looked out the tiny window cut
into the stone wall.
I saw the lights of San Francisco just coming
up in the early summer evening.
Pictured the flowing dresses of the lovely
girls out for the night. Smelled their
perfume on the wind. Could feel the satin of
their skin.
And I imagined the feeling I'd feel when that
heavy door thudded shut and cut me off from the world.
Wait. That's a lie.
I didn't have to imagine it. Because I
REMEMBERED it.
I spent years of my life working my ass off
trying to find some way to meet, attract, and
really relate to women.
Why? Because the rest of my life was
conspiring to cut me off from them. And
something in me kept fighting every day. It
kept fighting to connect, to reach out, to be
free to join in the life all around me.
Maybe that's just my story. Maybe I'm the
only one who ever felt cut off from the
world, in isolation, left out of the party,
or doomed to spend his life killing time,
hoping that maybe someday it will just change
and I'll be free.
But after teaching thousands of men how to
connect with people for real, and how to fill
their lives, their days and their nights with
the company of beautiful women, I don't think
it's just me.
I think it's a goddamn crime that we live in
a world where we aren't taught from day 1
that NOTHING matters unless you have happy
relationships.
I'll say that again.
I don't care what you do or how successful
you are.
I don't care if you own an entire island in
the West Indies, or have a staff of trained
spider-monkeys to serve you peach cobbler
with fresh whipped cream for dessert.
Without relationships that bring you joy, you
will never have a happy life.
Don't wait another day for your chance.
The Rock closed years and years ago. But I
can look out my window now, lying in bed with
a beautiful girl nuzzled up next to
me, and see it clearly. I know how it felt.
It doesn't have to feel like that for anyone.
Not for anyone, and not for you. Not anymore.
Make today the day you set yourself free.
Now, go out and meet some women!
