i'm a 22yr old college senior and i make my income solely from poker (online mainly). occassionally i wear a jacket/hoodie/fleece with either "PokerStars" or "FullTilt" embroidered on them. i don't wear them to peacock or brag because i don't like people to know the amount of money i make from poker.
my question is that sometimes the topic comes up either from them seeing the jacket, hearing a friend ask about it, or from me being tied up with tournaments for a few hours a day.
i am looking for responses to throw at girls when they give me a shit test about it like (but not limited too...)
-so you gamble for a living..
-so you think you're a badass like those guys on TV
-so you sit around playing poker for hours on end at your house
what i'm wondering is, could i turn these shit test questions into me DHV'ing. are they asking because they are actually interested or are they shit-tests that i need to change the subject on them right away
i'd like to think that i could DHV this but i'm not sure how to so that i don't look like an AFC

if you cant justify it yourself, maybe what they are saying is true. you should be able to come up with a reply on your own. think of the benefits of it and tell her that. for example: "while youre dealing with bitchy customers at work, i get to sit on my ass, have fun, and make money playing poker"
dude i work at Hobby Lobby and that is pretty bad... I usually say at first "you know those guys you see on highway exit ramps begging for money? well, they all work for me" and then when i finally have to tell them where i work, i say something about how the hours are good, i dont have to work sundays, i get to break stuff without punishment, etc. usually after telling a chick i work at hobby lobby, they ask if they can get a discount, i can turn that into a neg real quick  |

It seems that you think poker is for losers, but if your talented and you win, then your a cool cat. you gotta believe that shit first.

I think the stigma to a poker player is what she is shit-testing you over. My personal opinion here would be situational. You have say something that would easily allow you to stack and/or show either an intellectual side, C&F, DHV, or neg.
HB: You play poker at home all day?....*slightly disguisted face*
YOU: Well, some days I play at the library (at Starbucks, in class--you want to stack for a potential second meeting), only after I finish reading the paper (or after reading some *insert book*) though *with the biggest smirk on your face* (C&F, DHV, opportunity for time-bridge)

YOU: Hahaha. Wow! If you think those guys are bad ass, you really need to get your life outta the tv and into the world, maybe some books, or hobbies (say something specific like hiking, or male ice skaters, or mention a specific book--to which you can easily set up a 2nd meeting, lend her the book, etc.). (Neg)

YOU: *slightly modifying the above response* There's a difference between addiction and recreation. I gamble for fun, and I think everyone needs fun in their life. That's why you were destined to meet me  Stack into something and set up another meeting.
Just keep whatever you say fun and playful, and make sure you set yourself up to move on with conversation and not get hung-up with the shit-test. |
