That bears repeating. Any canned opener or story is going to fizzle if your delivery gives away the fact that it's canned. This is why learning to come up with something original to say in the moment is so important. Having a plan B never hurt, but you should keep these canned routines in your back pocket for the occasional crash and burn.
Your A material should be improvised in the moment, based on what's going on around you. Where are you, what is she doing, what are you doing, what song is playing, what's the vibe, what do you notice about her? Say something about that. Get a conversation going. Then, based on where the conversation goes, dig in to your own life stories for material that is consistent with the theme or feeling behind what the two of you are talking about. Let it flow naturally.
You can run out of routines and canned openers, but you'll never run out of actual moment to moment experience. There's always NOW. Tap into that and you have unlimited "material".
