Okay, I've been doing a lot of reading, and a lot of material references back to Neuro-Linguistic Programming. However, all the books I've found are mostly psychobabble about how it can change your life, without going into detail of actual theories or techniques.

So, I'll ask you: What good is NLP? Why is it referenced so often, and what exactly is it?

Thank you for the link, but I'm still baffled.

I've read some Ross Jeffries, are you saying that NLP is just his quasi-subliminal mode of speech? Is it a form of hypnosis? (I won't use hypnosis, because I don't feel right digging that deep into someone's psyche.) Is it also his anchoring?

In short, I'm looking for a few sentences describing what it is, and how it works. The forum link is wonderful once you know all that, but I don't.

Basically NLP deals with the relationship between our behavior and the patterns of thought which are related to it. There's a certain belief that there exists a certain form of connection between the neurological processes in the body, the linguistics or language that we use or hear and the thought process or patterns that have been learnt through experience by us.

I think NLP is a way of packaging hypnosis. It's just a way of using what can be described as the natural state of trance of a human being. NLP can achieve most benefits of hypnosis, without the need of putting the person in a deep trance state.

As for "Anchoring", well that is an actual NLP term and is basically that when we encounter certain things (or stimulus), we are reflexively forced to undergo a memory recall or a change of frame because we are "anchored" to it. In other words, we react in a certain specific way when we come into contact with certain specific things (called "Anchors").

Now, if that's cleared your basic doubts. I'd advise you to read that forum. There is a good "Getting Started" sticky thread there which might lead you to the right path regarding the study and use of Neuro Linguistic Programming.
