ask a friend of the girl you like if she (the girl you like) likes you?
(If you too are good friends with the girl you are asking)

And what is a good way of going about this? Asking does 'X' like me i assume is not a good way of going about it?

I know a lot of guys do to get background info on a girl, but isn't it easier to just do it yourself? you'll get a lot more respect just manning up and running some game.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

Basically my reason for asking is because i met a girl last year on holiday and have since kept in touch on fb and letters.

This summer i was inter-railing again and was in her city for a few days and we met up had a good day together with plenty of kino and flirting/teasing, but at the end of the day we just had a long hug.

She lives about 3hours by plane away and is moving to another country soon as part of her university course for 4months and i start a years placement next month in my city. So the only method of communication i have is still through email and letters.

This isn't exactly an ideal medium of communication, but i want to find out how she feels about me, but i know there are a lot of obstacles in the way.

So can you suggest a way i could go about this? How can i escalate using the two communication mediums i have?

(I understand that i should not get too attached to this girl and i will be going out regularly with friends on nights out to meet new people as well)

I agree with you that this is what i have to do. But because she is far away i can only do it through email or a letter and do not know if this will have the same effect? I will be keeping in constant contact with her, so i imagine the sooner the better?

Any other advise you can give me on this situation? lol
