Post subject:  Drinking and playing the game

Whenever I play the game I'm almost always drinking. That just happens to be the time I'm around a group of people and can play off of each of them. The problem is if I get too drunk, I forget the rules and tactics I've learned. I've tried not drinking as much but then I get teased or emasculated and have a hard time recovering. Has anyone else ran into this situation? What have you done to make the game second nature so even when you are drunk, you can still perform?

If people are teasing you for not getting drunk, they are idiots. I assume you guys are all high school/college age where that sort of behavior is a little more common. It will stop as you get older and your peers mature. There are plenty of good reasons that you can give your friends for not wanting to drink as much: you don't need to get wasted every time you go out, you're trying to be healthier, you don't want to hurt the gains you're making at the gym, you have a lot to do the next day and are less productive when you get drunk the night before, etc. The more you stand your ground and are strong in your beliefs, the more respect you are likely to get from your friends.

A little buzz can help to lower inhibitions but if you're drunk, you WON'T be able to perform as well. You'll be slurring your speech, your memory will be poor, and your conversational skills will suffer. I just started a similar thread on how to reduce your dependence on alcohol, as this is what I am trying to do. Hopefully we'll get some good answers. how-do-you-reduce-your-dependence-on-al ... 94674.html

Wow, you really have this all back asswards. Let me reword what you have just written and maybe you will see the light.

I am a drunk and I get really nervous and scared behind the wheel of a car. I tried to drive sober but all the other cars and traffic on the road scare me and intimidate me and I feel all self-conscious and uncomfortable on the road.

The problem is when I drink I drive like shit and swerve all over the road and cause accidents and I get tickets and OWIs.

How can I learn to drive drunk better so I don't get pulled over and charged with OWI all the time?
