Post subject:  No but really, WHY do people DANCE?

I just don't get it. I've been to bars & clubs, but I simple don't understand the point of getting up and dancing to the music. I've tried it a few times, but I get bored to death after about 2 minutes (half a song's worth), even if I'm with a girl.

Is it because I don't drink? Do you have to be drunk to enjoy dancing? Otherwise, why do people do it?

Dancing is 1: A shield from guys. If a group of girls are dancing together, they are some from most AFC's
2:Attention grabbing. If a group of girls are dancing together, chances are, guys are looking.
And 3: Most club dancing involves rapid physical movement and burns large amounts of energy,it's exercise, therefore like all other forms of exercise, it releases endorphins, a natural painkiller your body creates that creates the emotion of love and makes you "feel good", sorta like after a long run. Endorphins are also released when you are excited, feel pain(it kills pain, this explains BDSM), eat spicy food(odd I know) and when you orgasm(YAY!). So biochemistry makes girls dance, and the chemical called endorphins are why pickup works, so don't hate on dancing women.

I don't hate on anyone, I'm just genuinely curious, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I'm not terribly interested in why girls dance, they're an entirely different species and the way their senses and feelings work is completely different from men. In addition to the things you said, the way I understand, they also associate dancing with sex. I was actually asking why guys like to dance.

If it's endorphins then maybe it doesn't work for me for the same reason I get bored playing basketball and football(soccer): I'm used to high adrenaline contact-martial arts, so a little bit of jumping around just doesn't do it for me.

You think too much about it. Just drink some beers and do silly moves.

Scientific explanation: it's a collective rite, steered by the brain cortex.

I don't drink. I've done the moves. Thanks though. :)

And if you are wondering if you can pick-up girls by dancing very sensual: no. They just like the physical contact. :)

Well if it takes more to keep you interested than it is because your body has a higher tolerance to the movement. You need a certain pain aspect as well to get your adrenaline pumping and an endorphin release. The only reason other guys dances is because they don't have the tolerance you do. Simple as that. And the group rite thing.

its a form of expressing emotions and bonding with society, like music, singing, laughter, yawning etc.
we have been dancing for thousands of years as far back as the first tribes

I'm friends with pretty much all the DJs at the clubs I go to (great social proof!), so I go up and dance whenever they play a song that I like. The DJs like it when people dance because it gives the club a better image, they're more likely to play things you enjoy if they know you're willing to go up and dance (I frequently get my requests played early on in the night because the DJs know they need to get somebody onto the dance floor and I'm willing to be the first one), dancing displays confidence and shows that you're up for having a good time. It's also a great way to meet women, the chick that's giving you the eye on the dance floor is one that you know you can game with good results, plus, I genuinely do enjoy dancing.

I like to dance but it doesn't give me any adrenaline rush..it's just because I love to listen to music, I always have music while working and if I can dance to it why not. Also, I love to pick up chicks while dancing. I prefer to go see a girl that enjoy her night on the dancefloor than a chick who just sit on the bar.

dont u get kinda high from dancing? i do, if i do it for long enough and don't feel self-conscious about it.
that's the important thing, is u gotta not think too much about what u are doing and also about what anyone else is thinking about u. also helps to dig the music, if it's something that u absolutely don't like, it's not gonna make sense.

i've found that when i can lose myself and genuinely have a good time doing it, it makes girls more comfortable to talk and joke around with u. it's playful. and if u are truly having an alrite time doing it, it can show that u don't think too much about yourself and that u actually have a reason to be at the club, that u aren't just there to pick up on girls.

dancing is interaction too, i find myself naturally making a lot of eye contact on the dance floor even when i'm not specifically dancing with someone, just next to them or around them. in fact, i almost only ever actually dance with a girl if she's already a friend and pulls me on the floor with her. but dancing in a girl's general area can be a really great ice breaker.

dancing is just fun. also i never grind or even touch girls on the dance floor unless they openly initiate that with me in some way.

Maybe try somewhere with different music?

It's just a matter of finding the music and dance style that suits you.

I used to share your view and really didn't see the point. Then I found music that really got me going and figured out that if your being naturally driven by the rhythm from within, you start to appreciate how the momentum works with your body to create certain patterns of movement, and suddenly dance moves just kind of happen.

You can get as technical with dancing as you can with your martial arts. Take a look at some of the amazingly intricate and very intense street dance styles like crumping, or try some capoiera, and see if those do it for you.

If you're in a club and you're not actually feeling the music, don't pretend to be enjoying it and dance for the hell of it - you'll just come off looking bored and you won't exude the right kind of energy. Anyway, it doesn't matter, you can still talk to girls, sit them somewhere, and not bother dancing the whole night if you don't want to. But, it's better to find places that play the kind of music you like, and enjoy it authentically.

Because it's fun! :D

But I always get shy if I dance without a little drinking..

Also, it's good exercise! And if you dance well, girls may approach you!
