| Post subject: | Need advise for creating a sexual persona (Band) |
Hey guys, Wasn’t sure if I should post this in “General” or “Introduce Yourself” cause this is my first post (yep I am a newbie) and a mixture of the two so I guess here it is. Basically I am a 19 year old guitarist/front man who has just formed a rock/grunge band (etc Foo Fighters/Queens of the Stoneage/ Silverchair type sound) and want some help to create a sexual persona when I am on stage. You see a couple of weeks ago I saw an indie/garage rock band play and the vocalist just reeked of dark/sexual energy (much like Jim Morrison from the doors). My background has always been heavy metal and I have developed a brotherhood type persona but this guy’s character seemed so much more exciting. Me personally I have never really been good with girls and am a shy, polite, funny, friendly and I guess a ‘Nice Guy’. Where as when songwriting I embrace my shadow and write powerful, twisted and raunchy lyrics & pieces, so surely I can use my shadow as a persona. Even though my band has just formed if you guys have any tips or tricks that I could practice for later (both inner and outer game) it would be much appreciated. Thanks Tom, (Also I had a look for post similar and couldn’t find anything but if there are any similar or any that could help please link) |

It’s funny that Kurt Cobain would say that because it seems like he got into music because it was the only thing he didn’t hate (although he didn’t like the music industry and to some extent his fans). Back on track though, I see what you are getting at but getting girls isn’t my main music motive. The enjoyment that I get from creating emotion through my compositions is (otherwise I would be in an Oasis cover band Personally, I can’t see why it is such a bad thing to do not only what you enjoy, but what you are good at and what is considered sexually desirable to get girls? Thanks for the reply though. |

I certainly have a biased opinion because I consider music as something somewhat sacred in the sense that it shouldn't be mixed with pickup. That said, I've noticed that I work better and perform better when I have a girlfriend (meaning I'm not concerned about getting girls at all). You musical persona, like everything else in both music and pickup, should be an expression rather than an impression. Most pickup newbies would look at gurus like Mystery and try to be like him, copying his mannerisms and shit he wears. Most band dudes would look at legends like Jim Morrison and try to be like him, copying his mannerisms and his style of stage presence, etc. You say you embrace a shadow side when you're writing - your own shadow side - an expression of yourself rather than impression of someone else. That is what you need to embrace as a persona. That raw expression of your true self is where the sexual appeal comes from, although, if you start thinking about the sexual appeal, you lose the raw expression. Just like with pickup, your comfort zone should never even be a factor. |
