The game doesn't teach you much, it does however get you inspired to learn and takes away that skeptic feeling you have. So reading it would probably be a good idea. Mystery method is a good start, as it is pretty much the origin of PUA however now-a-day's there are probably more updated and more in depth versions which might give you more.
My advice is to head to the "Beliefs and Confidence Building, Self-Esteem, and General Inner Game" section and take a look at the Sticky called "Frame Control, Defining Reality, and Being High-Value "
Although it is quite long, if you got a few hours i suggest reading it. IT is a life changer, and if you read it properly it will drastically change your game.
Though some of the ideas in this method contrast the ones in Mystery Method, don't worry, mystery method wasn't perfect anyway.
