...but I figured I'd ask it here. I moved away from home to finish my AA at a community college before going to the main university in the same city. When I was back home my cousin says to me "So how does it feel to be living in the city of your dream school and going to _____ Community College?" Then another one of my close friends asked what I was going to Major in. When I answered "History" he busted out laughing. What exactly is the deal here? Is it just jealousy that I moved away or what? Shit kind of hurts my feelings and makes me not want to be around them. |

Misery loves company. You are trying to enrich your life. If they disrespect you for that, when they themselves are not trying at all, then their comments really don't deserve any consideration at all. Just ignore them. People don't like it when their peers succeed, while they themselves stay the same. You are taking away their excuses for failure. Without you, they could make all kinds of excuses for not succeeding. But with you excelling, they have to realize that they are just being lazy and have no real excuses. You are basically a mirror for their own short comings. By raising the bar, you've made them look bad by comparison. But that's a good thing, because you've also shown them that that higher bar is obtainable, and they should be trying harder in life to achieve it. |
