When a girl approaches me, I sometimes feel a moment shock, and cannot think of what to say. Basically I am a deer caught in headlights. Is there a way to tackle this problem?

Why is it you get shocked? Are you insecure? Afraid? Not used to it?

I guess it has to be not used to it. I have ADD, which means I tend to day dream a lot, be into my own world, and can be seen as aloof. So when a HB or anyone is disturbs me from my trance, I get startled, and feel too paralyzed to say something coherent. When I am on Ritalin, I don't feel the deer in headlights feeling as much

It may help for the time being (until you get more comfortable) to come up with a couple of generic responses to being approached that you can just drop immediately without having to think, thereby giving you those crucial few seconds to get over the immediate shock of being approached.

I tend to have a similar reaction to you. It's not just with women, it's actually with people in general. I am shocked usually whenever ANYONE behaves in a friendly way out of the blue. You know, like that one person per month who is actually friendly and says hello when you are walking out of a store or into the gas station? It's not anxiety, so much as it is not being prepared for a social interaction when one is very unsuspectingly thrust upon you.

Of course, this response is highly intensified when it comes to a social interaction with a woman due to the attraction factor.

Maybe some not-so-corny canned generic responses would help.
