Hey! Happy new year! I'm completely new to all this - as well as the city I am currently in, Shanghai - and I am confused by something: how to open any set when the music is so loud you know you'll have to lean in, speak slowly and use simple words to make sure they'll understand you? [mind the language barrier element here, I am using English with an average French accent, not local Shanghainese or even Mandarin] That sounds OK to hang out with friends, and sure, if you are cuddling in a sofa that should be OK, but other than that, I just don't get how it's supposed to work. Is it just the wrong place? I wasn't able to find any 'club' which strike a good balance between the music (not too loud) and the crowd (young, single)...so I am wondering if it does exist at all and I am not just 'making up' excuses to just not get to it. Any advice? Thanks! |

hi heibai you need to find nice lounges like Tara 57 and Jay z Club. Also there is this new place over by yongfu lu called the Apartment which seems perfect for conversation. places like Muse are not going to cut it as it's just too damn loud and you're right, impossible for conversation. You still in shanghai? |

Hey There mate, I happen to live in China too (Beijing). I noticed something interesting about places where you can meet people. You can do that not only in bars or clubs, there are a places quite traditional and original called tea houses. Trust me, it may seem a bit strange but consider these factors : usually quiet areas and most of the people there want to realax and so are not a lot (easier to get in to sets). Also these places can be really boring sometimes and people will welcome any sort of entertainment with open arms. i hope this helps, good luck. |
